At The Exchange in Blackburn, Holman showed alongside Jasleen Kaur and Masimba Hwati, three artists interrogating the residual cultural identities of the British Empire through family history and lived experience across three continents.
The work was developed over six months of dialogue between the artists and curators in 2021, with time to consider each practice and how they would sit together. What resulted was the ‘mess’ of new cultures that emerged as a consequence of colonisation, each artist revealing something personal in order to better understand the political.
The exhibition closed the British Textile Biennial 2021, with a short performance by Masimba Hwati in collaboration with Paul Nataraj on resistance, negotiation and the plight of minority subjects in a post-colonial context.
